Google Announces New Social Search Update

Google Plus SEOGoogle is at it, again.  We’ve been advising how important it is to create your business profile on the king of search’s social network.  Now, more than ever, is a good time to get started.

This week, Google launched some new features to its social search product.  These new personal results will be displayed in Google’s search engine result pages.  Google is calling it, “Search, plus Your World.”

If you haven’t, you soon will as Google rolls personal results out over the next few days.  You’ll find this icon in the upper right corner of your Google screen.  Here, you can toggle personal results on and off.  So, what is “Search, plus Your World”?

Here’s what Google is saying about it:

Search has always brought you information from across the web. Now, search gets better by including photos, posts, and more from you and your friends. When signed in with Google+, you’ll find personal results and profiles of people you know or follow. You can even expand your world by discovering people related to your search.

What kind of results will be affected by personal results from “Search, plus Your World”?

Photos from you and your friends.  Search for photos shared with you on Google+ or uploaded by you and your connections.

Google+ content from your circles.  Relevant Google+ posts and comments that have been shared with you will now appear in your search results.

Profiles in search.  Find people faster by seeing their Google profile appear right as you type their name in search.

Related people and pages.  Discover people and brands related to your search and connect by adding them to your circles.

Your personal results include your own content as well as content that has been shared with you by suggested connections who have Google+ profiles.   If you have Google+, your personal results can also include content that has been shared with you by people in your circles… When you do a regular web search, a  personal result icon appears to the left of personal results. When you do a search on Google Images the name of the person who shared the photo appears on personal results.

Look what happened when I typed “actor” into the search bar on Google today:

Google+ results are now showing on the right-hand side of the screen.  What happens if you do not have a Google+ page?  Well, your competition who does have a Google+ page would be getting found by more customers and taking your business.  If you don’t want that to happen, then I suggest getting your Google+ page set up pretty quickly.   Google already shows you websites your circles (friends) have +1’d or shared.  Now, you have another reason to get moving over to Google+.

We told you a social network by the king of search would make waves and it would be wise to get on it.  Google is continuing to update its algorithm to incorporate social media more and more into search results.  Go create your Google+ business page now.  …and don’t forget your keywords.
